We never go anywhere on Memorial Day. We're boring like that.
2nd - we don't like crowds.
3rd - 3 days isn't long enough to get ourselves and the kidlets somewhere and back without some MAJOR stress.
4th - did I already mention that we have no money?
So we've been hangin' around the house with just a small trip to the city center yesterday, which was way more of a hassle than it should've been. Imagine me cruising the store, all 3 levels, with daddy and the boys going up and down the escalators to keep Little Boy quiet. HE.LOVES.ESCALATORS. So does mommy, guess he gets it from me.
Anyway, today we've been working in the yard (well, daddy has), cleaning the house, basic boring stuff. I've gotten a couple projects done that I wanted to show you!
Get ready for the CC (cursing crafter)!!
This project is rated SCC (single curse craft) = EASY (seriously, I don't think I actually uttered a curse at all on this one. I may have when I was fighting the darn hanger thingy when I was done, but that wasn't when I was actually making the craft.)
Here's how I did them!
These are silhouettes that I've been dying to do. I took the kids pictures from the side, blew em up to 8x10, cut em out and then traced em onto black card stock. I cut those out and glued em to the toile background that is made from my favorite toile wrapping paper that is wrapped up around a piece of cardboard like a present. Tied a ribbon on em and put their names and ages and they were good to go. If you wanna see my other loverley projects that I've done with this one roll of toile wrapping paper, you can click here or here!
Anything to do with my kids, I.LOVE. So even if I didn't think the toile background turned out really cute (which, I must admit, I thought they turned out great) I would still love em.
My next project was a TCC (triple curse craft) = pain in the REAR
It probably wouldn't be that hard for someone who isn't as inept as I tend to be.
Actually I was inspired by Beckie over at Infarrantly Creative and this is what came of it. Go check her kitchen out, it's really CUTE. I got the idea for my chairs from her barstools.
Close up of the distressed edges. I actually distressed the entire chair and then I hated it, so I re-painted it and started over just distressing the edges. I like it!
I am using the chair cushions because the top of the seat didn't turn out that great. For some reason it looks spotty to me and I've re-painted and sanded and all that good stuff a million times so I'm done. I think the gingham pattern really goes with the country-ish look I was aiming for.
Those spray paint cans should come with warnings : If you plan on painting for more than 5 seconds: get one of those sprayer thingamajigs because your fingers will turn into curled up spasming talons if you don't.
Seriously. 6 cans of spray paint for 2 chairs (they were extras that I was using to practice, basically, in case I ruined em) and 2 index fingers that will never be the same.
So there are the CC's imperfect crafts for this weekend. They are imperfect which is great for this imperfect momma.

Looks like you are having the PERFECT weekend! The weather is perfect too. I really like the chairs! They look so cute with the pads! The silhouettes are adorable.

PLUS;
Being out in the world with a bunch of crazy amateur Memorial Day drunks is as dangerous as New Years Eve!
I love the silhouettes. I used to do them in my classroom for Mother's Day.
Wow! sounds like a wonderful weekend to me.
I really like chairs and the silhouettes! Very cute.
I have zip creative bones in my body, and zero creative thoughts processed. I can't even copy the ideas of others. Go figure! By the way, your list of reasons why I don't go on memorial trips could be the same list I'd give.
you. are. awesome.....seriously!
OH and i wanted you to know that you are one of the winners for my monthly follower drawing! send me your address and i will get some goodness off to you the first week of June!!
Great projects!
I remember having kids that needed to be entertained... now I just talk to them on the phone... hehehehe... your day is coming sooner than you think.
I love your silhouettes... a theme that would fit right into My World! Thanks for stopping by. My World is a new blog for me.. I started it this month in celebration of another blog (French Lique, Texas Blog) anniversary... I love B&W photography... and I love sharing my B&W opinion on everything... so I think it suits me.. I hope you'll come by again... and also, visit me in French Lique now and again...
Celebrate Freedom today! hugs. Dixie
I'm impressed with the silhouettes and the chairs. I've been considering painting out dining room set, but I have yet to talk to the husband about it because I'm sure he dreads all my projects. Hehe. Have a wonderful day with your family.
Very cute crafts! I love the silouttes! So cute. Congrats to you also on Mamarazzi's follower giveaway. And thanks for stopping by my blog, too! I always enjoy new visitors.
Have a great week.
