This is an old post, but I wanted to link up with these awesome parties! Thank you for visiting and be sure to check out the other fabulous kids' rooms that are linked up!

Roomspiration

************************************************************
So Kelly over at Kelly's Korner has been doing these neat parties every Friday with Show Us Where You Live Fridays.
It's really cool for someone as nosy as me. I can go over to her site and then click on anyone who's posted and take a virtual tour of whatever room is featured that week. I have seen so many lovely kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms that the "idea folder" in my head is filled with awesome ideas now to last me a lifetime! My nurseries are the only thing that I feel confident enough about sharing with everyone in blogland. Mostly because my sister did them and she is da bomb (I can't believe I just wrote that) when it comes to murals, paintings, really anything artsy.
Here is my tour...bear (bare?) with me, I have lots of things to show you.

First, let me show you this beautiful cradle that my dad and brother started building for me as soon as I told everyone I was pregnant. I told them at the end of October and they gave it to me on Thanksgiving. There's a little plaque on it saying "Made with love by Grandpa and Uncle Joe 2002" on the bottom side. My mom crocheted the afghan and got the bumpers for it. I have no idea why the picture is so small! But trust me, it's GORGEOUS.
In 2003 we did this room for our oldest who is gonna be 6 on Tuesday, June 2nd.
Winnie the Pooh
All of the characters on this fence were actually wall stickies...but the fence was hand painted by my dad. (I did the stickies because I ruin everything I touch with paint.)
This was all done by my sister except for the Tigger, again, a stickie. Notice the detail around the bottom of the tree. My mom did all of that. My sis actually did the main outline of everything, and mom came behind and filled in. I outlined about half of the Pooh. Then I got bored. It was tedious. Notice in the picture below...they're catching honey! How cute is that?

This is my sister. She's probably wondering, at this point, what she signed up for. We did this room in 1 (one!) day. Notice the 3D clouds! It was my one major contribution. And my mom helped, so I didn't do it by myself...can you say: SLACKER. Hey! I was pregnant. Shut it.

My dad painted that bright shiny sun a couple pics down and if you enlarge the picture on the top, you'll see towards the corner of the room, there's a teeny tiny man sitting in a chair. My dad painted that. It was his signature. A grandpa sittin' in a chair waiting for his grandson. Do ya think he was excited??

This room was literally too small to actually stand back and take a picture of the whole thing, so that's why there are so many pictures of different areas.
Next up...
Barnyard Room
When our oldest was around 18 months old, we moved to a different, bigger house. (I cried, having to leave that lovely room behind.)
So when he turned 2, we were at the new place and we decided to do it up for him in a toddler theme.

We painted the pasture not realizing that the barn red wouldn't cover it...so that's why it's darker on the bottom half. But I still loved it, so we left it. The little guy hanging out the barn window? That's Big Boy...I blew up a picture of him and cut it out and taped him up there. I thought it was SUPER cute!

I did the sweaters that the piggies are wearing. So creative, aren't I? NOT.

We had 3 big trees in this room. My dad did the sun in this room too. And my mom did the colorful windmill.

We wanted a moon in one corner. And so you can see, my fear of cats didn't come into play here. I had my sis do a kitty for him, also.

And my dad's famous signature self portrait. This time he has his grandson, his dog and a ball.

I made some green and white gingham curtains for the window...but they're not in this picture because we had just finished and put everything back in the room!
2 down, 2 to go!
At the same time we were doing the Barnyard Room, we were planning a nursery for our second child, another boy, who would be born in October 2005.
This one is...
Nursery Rhymes
Humpty Dumpty, Hickory Dickory Dock and Jack and Jill

Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater and The Old Lady who Lived in a Shoe

Hey Diddle Diddle and a sleepy teddy bear on the moon.

Notice the baby footprints along the walls, linking the scenes together. My sis and I did that with the sides of our palms and pinky fingers.
Out of all of these rooms, only the Nursery Rhyme one remains, although it is a playroom/computer room now. The Pooh one is in our old house, and I hear they painted over it. (even though they had a 16 year old with a new baby who was moving into that room...argh.)

And of course, grandpa added his special touch with a self portrait like the one above...only with a baby and lots of balls and a wagon. :)

The Barnyard Room was re-done for a Big Boy room in the theme of his choice...and since we felt like we should do this one on our own, there are no murals. Just wall stickies. It turned out pretty good though, in our (my husband and I) opinions.
So finally, here is the last room...

Cars (the movie) Theme...
We did this last year for Big Boy's 5th birthday. He had a choice of bunking alone or sharing a room with his brother. He always chooses (for now) to be with his little brother, so they share this room. Since we weren't relying on my sisters murals this time around, I focused a lot on the details and I made the curtains and the big Cars pillows.

The chairs were made by my brother for Christmas of 2007. We didn't know that we were going to do a Cars theme room at that time, but they fit in perfect don't they?

My mom and sister in law painted these wooden letters for the boys.

We did commission my sister (again) to paint this picture of Frank the combine from the movie because, try as we might, we CAN NEVER find anything with Frank on it! My brother built a beautiful blue frame around the picture, you'll have to imagine it though, because I can't find the picture and after spending FOREVER doing this post, I'm SO not gonna go take one.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of my nurseries/children's rooms!
I have an awesome family, don't I?

Hi there,
I can't get over how everyone in your family is an amazing artist. You lucky girl. These murals are wonderful.
I scrolled down to see that you have a thing for purses just like my Sara. Did you happen to notice my 'purse organization' post in my Archives? I was very proud of brain storm idea. It works great, however she keeps a step stool in her closet so she can easily reach them. : )

Thanks for showing us all the awesome kids' rooms. I bet your family loved helping get the rooms ready for your boys.

Love, love, love that purse in your purse post! I'm a purse girl, too. My friend gave me a card that said, "In purses, I'm a size 4." Hehe, so true.

Saw you at the All things Bright and Beautiful link party. How special to have those murals on your walls. Precious. Your profile story is hysterical. I imagine you're loading up on the pumpkin spice candles this fall! Makes me laugh!
