My Mom Becomes the Cursing Crafter

So a few weeks ago I was raiding my mom's house (as i usually do when i go over there) looking for...well, pretty much anything that might catch my eye. I'm sorta weird like that.

Anyway, I noticed she had some new apothecary jars. Really cool ones! And I was like, "Hey, mom, where did you get those jars?" <--- which is code talk for, "hey mom, gimme those now."

She told me she made em.

screeech. <--- that's the sound of a record coming to a halt, dontcha know. if you're too young to know what that sounds like or what a record is, then i don't know you.

"Mom! You must enlighten me with this knowledge," I said.

Or.

It might have sounded like this: "Whaaa?! Nuh uh!"

I begged her to do a tutorial for me so I could share it on my blog.

Or.

It might have sounded like this: "You're doing a tutorial for my blog, dude."

And? She obliged. We took the pictures together and she told me how she did it and now I'm sharing it with you.

The best part about this is that it's a Dollar Store craft. Like, as in, these beauties won't cost you more than a few bucks to make! <--- i'm cheap so this is good for me. take that wherever you want.

Here's what you will need...

candle holders
2/1.00 at Dollar Tree

vases, containers, votive cups
1.00 at Dollar Tree

prep bowls (3/1.00 at Dollar Tree) and you just want the lid to a teeny jar candle (1.00 @ Dollar Tree)

the mother of all craft glue
(couple bucks at any craft store or Walmart)

Using the E-6000, glue the vase to the candle holder like this:

To make the lids, take the prep bowl and flip it upside down. Remove the plastic grip from the candle in a jar lid (easy to just snip off with scissors) and glue to the bottom of the bowl like this:

This is before we took the clear plastic gripper off. Also an example of two different styles of lid. The one on the bottom is the lid to a regular sized jar candle with a teeny jar candle lid on top.

You might feel the need to make the lids more stable in the jar because sometimes the lid will fit but is a little loose. I mean, like a teeny bit loose. You can do this by buying a roll of ribbed clear shelf liner (from Kmart, couple bucks) and cutting a strip and gluing it around the bottom of the lid like this:

you won't need to do this on every lid. just ones that you feel are loosey goosey.

Here they are almost finished. Glue hasn't dried and well...actually they aren't glued at all, we just put em together for this here tutorial. Notice the plastic gripper is still on the lid on the left.

Here is the finished product.

in the bathroom

And just to show you how crafty my mom is, this a close up of one that she etched designs in. Yeah. She made her own apothecary jar and etched it. She's that talented!

Here's what she said about the Cursing Crafter Rating:
"And I didn't even curse! Well, not much. Only...like...well...once. Maybe?"

There ya go!

Cheap.

Easy.

Pretty.

Only between 3 and 4 dollars apiece!

Thanks, Mom!

Your mother is obviously much cooler than mine. Or me.

I heard my mother say to Alex this morning "What was that noise from hell you just made?"

And she thinks I'M teaching him how to swear.

Your mom is the COOLEST! What a fantastic idea! I might have to try this out for myself. Being very careful with the glue of course...I'm kind of bad at glue.
