I've been seeing this topic around the blogosphere for a couple of weeks, most recently at The V Spot, and have been wracking my poor little brain to come up with my own word so that I could do a post.
Basically, it's just your word for the year. I don't do resolutions. They're dumb and they set me up for failure. Also, I think every morning that you wake up is a good day to start doing things differently.
For example, a couple years ago (i can't believe it's been that long!) I woke up one morning and said, "Aha! I need to eat healthier. I need to be healthier." And bam. That was it. For 2 years I have been living a healthier life style.
To date I have lost about 65 pounds. Nowhere near the amount I need to lose, but still, really good.
So what would my word of the year be? I couldn't figure it out. Until today. Or was it last night? I can't remember.
You probably already know...what gave it away? Oh. Yeah. The title, perhaps?
My word for the year is:
I feel the need to have...
L e s s consumption...of material things. Of junky food.
L e s s money spent...on crap I don't need.
L e s s worrying...about things I can't control. I need to quit looking in and start looking up.
M o r e.
L e s s weight...of soul and body.
L e s s negativity about myself...with body image and self image.
L e s s cussing. What. You knew that was coming, right?
L e s s yelling. Yes. I'm a yeller. Could you guess? Huh? HUH?!
L e s s junk and clutter.
L e s s noise. In my head.
Just. L e s s.
Right now l e s s seems more. More peaceful.
Doesn't it?

I love this. What a great idea. The simplicity is complicated but simple... right?
I'm going to have to think of a word, I need all the help I can get to get to where I'd like to be!
this is so good. last year my word was JOY. i am still working on my word for this year...i am tossing around a couple. i decided to give myself until Feb to decide. too much going on right now!
i am so impressed by your weight loss.
you are awesome.
I love this! Less is more. My word was balance, but I think I could use this word as well!
First of all, congrats on your weight loss, that is awesome!
My word would have to be 'happy'..making me happy and everyone around me even happier!
Have a great day..
awesome weight loss! and LESS would be my word for the year too. I need to apply it a little bit of everywhere
Great post, Meems! Less is a great word for the year. I should really try to spend less! Oops!
I'm not being very creative coming up with one... Can I steal your word? That one sounds great!
I would say for me everything you wrote. That is perfect!
What a great post.. and a great word for the year! :)
Can I use your word? And all of your things that go along with your word? I know, I'll just be you. :-/ Is that stalker-y? LOL But in all seriousness, I'm with you on ALL of this...except the cussing. I like to cuss. A lot. I should just stop cussing while yelling. or something like that. You're awesome!!!
I've seen a lot of people choosing a word of the year. But I don't know if I could come up with one for myself. I guess I've got 11.5 months to come up with a good one for 2013. ;o)
Now THAT is a great word. Less, not that. I mean yes, that, but less.
What a perfect word! I haven't been able to come up with one yet
Great post. I love your word. Less is a great word that we could all benefit from, though of course I don't mean to say that I'm trying to steal your word for the year. :)
No. Pleeease. No Less cussing. Less on everything else mentioned, but on the cussing.
Shit.
Patience. It seems like a good word when dealing with my boys--it would lead to less yelling, less stress and more fun. Yeah, patience seems like a very good word.
PS: I tagged you on my blog. Just a little fun thing.
I was just thinking yesterday about how I need to de-clutter. And, really, I don't have that much stuff, but I feel the need to have even less lately. I like your word! I need to think of one for myself.
I think my word for the year is going to be MORE.
As in more peace. More health. More service. More happiness.
That is a great word! Perfect even.
That is a great word, and one you can carry with your throughout the year, making it easy to continue. Love it. My word? Nying-je, a Tibetan word with a beautiful meaning.
I'm so proud of your weight loss! I agree that part of losing weight is also losing emotional baggage and clutter.
Good word. I'm a yeller too. I decided last night it wasn't good for me or the baby.
I'm with you. I think that "less" is the perfect way to live "more" this year. I think that will be my new word too. :)
Angela
Less junk and clutter, I totally agree. With 3 kids I am constantly going through toys and clothes and giving away what we don't need (or I don't want) anymore. Good mantra!
I think I told Viv my word was SKINNY. My goal is to feel skinny. Now, compared to your word, my word just seems shallow and to be honest--unobtainable. BUT, it's my word and I'm sticking to it.
Unless I told her a different word....
My brain is fried (and not from METH which makes you skinny)
Yes to all of this! This is perfect :)
Wow, 65 pounds! You go, girl! Impressive and Inspiring!!
Less is a great word for 2012. Not sure I could cuss less, though. That would be a serious challenge for me.
Congratulations on your weighing LESS! Ha! I love your word! Less worrying would be a great one for me!
LESS! That is a big big one over here.
Less is an awesome word. I didn't blog about it, but my word is discipline.
I absolutely LOVE your word! I love it! Perfection.
(You're awesome with the weight loss, btw)
I must be out of the loop. But I will say, I like your word. It's a good one. I need it.
