Political Crap

I admit it. I'm a politics junkie. I believe it's so important to pay attention to what is going on politically because most of the time it will affect you at some point in your life.

Well, folks, it's 2012. Election year. Presidential election year.

Seriously sick of all the political talk.

Seriously sick of all the hatred. I disagree with 99% of what our current president does. Okay? So I showed my hand.

But I shouldn't be afraid of that. I should not be in fear that people will call me names because I don't agree with him. Disagreeing with someone politically has nothing to do with whether or not I'm a good person.

Disagreeing with his stance on things, bills he proposes, things he says...does not make me ignorant.

All of my decisions are come to after reading up on issues, watching many different news outlets online and on TV, reading the paper, magazines, etc.

Some of them come from my position as a Christian. **Gasp!!** A Christian might have a different view on something than a non Christian? The hell you say.

Seriously.

I can feel a rant coming on. Can you tell??

Are you ready for election season to be done?

Do you ignore the news because it irritates you and do you think that makes you less prepared to vote for what you believe?

Or do you just not care?

And on a less annoyed note....

Happy Mother's Day to all you mommas and all the "one day I'm gonna be a mommas!"

No matter how much I edit that sentence I can not get it to sound right.

First off that last sentence made total sense to me... I should be worried about that shouldn't I?

Politics are tough, people get way to pissy about simply disagreeing on stuff. At this second I don't know enough to make an informed decision. I do know though that we could surely use a different president!!!

i am with Myya that last sentence makes perfect sense to me too.

the political thing is a rough one. i have people who i love love love who have very different opinions than i do.

i also have my own personal religious convictions that i am in total conflict with.

this whole gay marriage being one of them.

all i can think about is what if straight people were told they could not get married to the person they love. would i fight for that right? oh hell yes i would.

i TRY really hard to see all sides of an argument before i VOTE on what i believe to be the right choice.

i RESPECT (which is different from support) our president because the people voted for him (i didn't by the way) and he is MY president.

does he make is super difficult to respect him? yes.

does he say and do stooooopid things? yes yes yes

will he EVER get my vote? nope.

do people think i am an idiot for feeling this way? i imagine people on both sides do.

do i care what people think of my political views?

nope.

is this comment ever going to end?

yep.

Since high school, I was very interested in politics. I tried to keep up with candidates, positions, and then our elected representatives. My husband is not interested.at.all. I have just gotten tired of fighting him about watching news, debates, etc. and given up. So now, I feel like I am an uninformed voter, but I still vote!

I absolutely agree with you. I think we can all have opinions and we can voice our opinions, but if we aren't willing to stop and open our mind to the other side of the conversation, then we are just rams beating our heads into one another. Diversity is what makes this country great...unfortunately it could also tear it apart. I really don't care for the pundants arguing over each other, without any regard to an actual conversation. And so, I've quit watching all news outlets and pretty much quit reading the NY Times until December. I'm pretty sure I know who has my vote so the rest of it just makes me crazy.

Now, can we all hold hands and sing "Imagine" by John Lennon. That would be awesome.

I'll add a question to the end of your list. Do we really want to try and get as many people as possible to vote; would that really be a good thing?

I like what Mama said about respect. You don't have to like what our leaders are doing, but you should respect the position....and then do whatever you can to get them out of office. It's how the danged system was set up!

I work in a political office, so I get to hear more than enough of....all this. It's awesome (thick sarcasm font).

It's all lies.

Every single candidate lies their asses off to get elected.

What I want to do....is elect the guy that will do the LEAST amount of damage.

I think there is a guy that can turn this sinking ship around.

I'm with CJ. For reals. Some people should just NOT vote.

Also....MITT 2012!!!

I can't stand people who tell me to leave religion out of politics. If a candidate is deliberately and openly against my personal and religious beliefs, how can I in good conscience vote for them?
I'm not a rick santorum fan, and I'm glad he dropped out, but I really love the defense he gave on Leno the other night when Jay really tried to tear him down and tell him that republican canditates are wasting their time on moral issues like pot, porn and families when they should be more concerned about the economy, foreign affairs and national defense. It was nice to hear a candidate come right back in defense of families and moral values. He's totally right. What nation can stand agains a foreign attack if the moral fiber and core values are crumbling underneath it's feet? Well said, republican candidates. Fight for love, honesty, fidelity, and absolutely your religion. Those will make us a better nation.

Ok. So, like we are all waiting for the highly intellectual SurferWife to speak up here, right?

I HATE politics. I have made extra efforts to ignore the shit because it angers me so. Pretty much for all the reasons you have stated.

Wanna hear something interesting though? I would always be like that child with her fingers in her ears going LALALALALA, but I kinda stopped recently. I have listened. I have formed opinions.

And would you believe? I will be CHANGING MY POLITICAL PARTY THIS YEAR?

BECAUSE I ALLOWED MYSELF AN OPEN MIND. AND I DIGESTED. AND I FORMED AN OPINION BASED ON KNOWLEDGE AND GIT INSTINCT.

Crazy, right?

Aren't you all wondering what party I am changing from? muahahahaha

I like you. I like President Obama. I see no reason why those two things would be mutually exclusive. Probably because I'm not a total tool. (Or at least I'd like to think so ;-)).

I don't think religion has a place in politics. There, I said THAT. Now, if a person's religion contributes to their leaning on various issues, which it will, that's perfectly acceptable. BUT I don't abide "I'm X religion, so the law should be Y - according to the precepts of X religion." There's got to be a little law and stuff in between.

I hate politics. I do my own reserach on a particular set of issues and I avoid the news as much as I can because I think it's all biased and stupid.

Except the Daily Show. Which I love.

John Stewart 2012.

Thank you for the Mother's Day wishes, and right back at you!

Well, we may share opposite opinions on politics, but we can def agree on one thing - it's important to be educated and know what you're doing when you vote!!! :o)

It drives Cory crazy, but I listen to political talk radio every morning for an hour while I'm getting ready. He doesn't like it because whatever they talk about in the morning typically affects my mood for the rest of the day. If there's an idiot talking, you can be certain I'm going to be a total b*tch the rest of the day. :o)

Im not into politics that much.. but I do know that our current president says stupid things and makes horrible decisions. Im not saying McCain would have been better.. I think that Bush left a whole ton of crap for them to deal with when he left.

I guess Im saying it cant get much worse? Pfffft.. heres to hoping.

I liked the sentence. Maybe I'm an Ignorant voter. Teehee

I am appalled that at present, people are bullied, called names and looked down upon if they do anything but support the current presidency. for all the MOVING FORWARD and this is 2012, bullshit. We have clearly been sliding backwards at an alarming rate.

An informed voter is a wise voter. No one wanted to ask HOW changes were going to happen. It's the fine print, not the gender or color of skin, that we most need to focus on.

Mimi for president!

The HELL you say!!! LOL!!! I love you woman!
I'm one of those women who don't think like a non-Christian...
(double negative - you can figure it out)
I care. Deeply! I do wish it was all done and past and that good wins out in the end. At least I pray so.
Have a wonderful mothers day!

I'm over politics. I'm ready for it to be over already lol

I'm the one who tunes out the news. I just hate it. It brings me down, it puts me in a mood, and I've got enough junk going on right now that I don't need *that* on top of the rest of it. BUT. I watch enough, and read enough, and talk about it enough to stay informed enough to KNOW that anyone {seriously. anyone} would be better than Obama. So that's my vote ;)

Corinne said...

I don't even talk politics with some people, because I know it's just going to come down to them calling me a name. :(

Sela Toki said...

Well said Mimi. Everyone is entitled to their own freedom of choice. That's what makes this land great and wonderful. Thank you for always dropping by my blog. Have a wonderful Mother's Day and God bless.

I totally agree. I hate it that people can't respect decisions. I am republican and didn't vote for Obama, but I don't hate him and hope he fails because that means our country fails! (more) Why do people have to be so crazy about it all, on both sides! But then they had a re election here in France and the guy who won makes Obama look good and I asked my rather conservative friend who he voted for and he wouldn't tell me! I don't care, I'm American! But he said among the French it's a sensitive subject. haha!

You shouldn't feel bad or guilty for whatever you believe in. So you don't like the current president... that's your prerogative. I think with this current president... it's damned if you like him, damned if you don't. Nobody wins. I don't really talk about politics much. I don't feel my vote counts... even though they would like me to think it does. Every little bit counts... but it doesn't, really. Bush cheated and won the election one year. That is all it took for me to give up on politics. Its like I care, but not really.

I am ashamed to admit how clueless I am about the candidates each election. I get frustrated because I feel it often doesn't do any good to listen to the news or campaign adds, because it all seems biased. I never feel like I know who to trust. My husband stays much more on top of things, and as a state employee I think he often sees first hand when elected officials make horrible calls or rather stick it to us big time as they have been doing for years in CA. I usually talk to him before each election and see who he favors.
BTW my Mother's day was good. I hope yours was wonderful too. Did you get something pretty?

One of the reasons we no longer watch tv and just watch Netflix are all the crap commercials, including freaky political ads. I feel like the ads aren't appropriate for prime time tv when my kids could be watching.

Shawn said...

I'll be honest....most of the politcial crap goes right over my head. I listen to my husband because he has the desire and abilty to educate himself (I do not, I'm rather simple). However, I do not let him tell me who to vote for but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who's team he wants to be on. In the end I gather as much information I can from those that I love and trust and vote with my heart and gut. For the record my heart and gut did not assist our current President achieve his title.

Bottom line, people need to be respectful of those who do not agree with them politically.

End of my rant!

Amen, Sister!!! All the way around, I fully agree with everything you said (but, you already knew I would!)!!!

Methinks that perhaps, "he who shall not be named" is running a little scared right now...which is kinda funny...considering that a nomination hasn't "officially" been made as to who his opponent will be. If he rages and throws tantrums this early in the game, one can only imagine how sophmoric and desperate his mudslinging will become closer to election day. I'm over it already. I am so ready for a NEW "change." =)

Amen, sister!

As far as news coverage, I learned firsthand 4 years ago just how easy it is to manipulate the news and tell whatever story they want. So if I'm paying attention, I always make sure to go to several types of sources before forming an opinion on anything a candidate has supposedly said or done.
