So yesterday I left you all with the painting of our walls and ceiling. This part was easy for me because, well...I didn't do it. That was my husband's job.
My job was to paint the furniture. If you ask me, it's a heck of a lot harder to paint stupid furniture, let me tell ya! But then again, that's coming from a woman who can't paint an entire wall in under 4 hours because she gets bored and leaves it.
So here's the nightstand in all it's faux wood finish, press board glory.

Now, if you clicked any of my links yesterday y'all know my penchant for spray paint when it comes to these projects.
So I ended up getting 9 cans (it was supposed to be 10 but i miscounted) of flat white spray paint. I took the hardware off the drawer and painted away.
Of course, spray paint ends up looking mottled sometimes. So the spray paint was sort of the primer, in this case.
I wanted to make sure that it was going to hold up to wear and tear so I got an enamel flat white paint by Rustoleum in a can that looked a lot like this:
everyone needs to be aware of rusting night tables. huh? i dunno. also. it was flat white.
So at this point I took a roller and rolled this paint on just like you would paint a wall. I don't have any pictures of this I guess...? I thought I took em but I can't find em.
I also took this hardware...
...and used Plaid latex craft paint to paint it a shade of gray. I mixed shiny black with Wicker White to come up with the shade I wanted. I just brushed the paint on and then when it dried I used a sealer in a spray can to make it shiny and seal it. I then took some of the blue Plaid craft paint and painted the cream colored beads and then used some of the white on a sponge to make it mottled looking.
Here's the finished hardware.
I figured by painting the one part the blue color that it would add a little pop of color but be easily changeable by painting over with a different color if/when I want a change.
Here's the finished product:
Then I had the hope chest. It took me 2 days with a sledge hammer (overkill? no!) and a chisel to get this stupid adhesive off. There had been a stained, ugly, light cream colored cushion glued and stapled onto this thing.
After I was done with that I took the hardware off to do the same paint treatment to while I painted the chest. I actually used a foam brush and the enamel from up there ^^^ to paint this thing. I did 3 coats. Then it looked like this...
The top still looked like crap because the zigzag of the adhesive marks. It's okay, I'm planning to cover this thing anyway.
Now because this thing was never going to get a solid coat without a light spot or a brush mark, I decided to get some light gray paint and take a regular bristle paint brush and add some "distressed" marks. I painted the hardware and put it back on.
Here are the finished product...
I'll show you how I made the top cushion in another post.
Now after I added all of the newly white furniture back into the room, I decided this TV armoire that I have looked stupid. I was thinking I could get away with leaving it the faux wood pattern, but really, it stuck out like a sore thumb. You can see the before picture in yesterday's post.
So. Back to the painting process...
I did this armoire in the same exact way that I did the hope chest and distressed it with gray paint. I also painted the hardware a hammered metal gray.
Here's the finished product...
Now here's the odd part. All of these pieces turned out way better than I thought they would. I had low expectations, even lower than usual, ha!, and lo and behold...they turned out. Weird!
Maybe I'm getting better at the technique? I don't know. But I'm pleased with it.
Next week I'll show you all of the soft/linen things I did like pillows, cushions, headboard re-upholstering, etc. Then I'll show you the finished products.
But stay tuned for tomorrow...the scariest/funniest post ever is coming up!

When the faux wood gets old, paint sure can perk it up. Things are looking good in there.
