Master Bedroom - Complete Overhaul {Part III}

I left off last week with the end of the furniture re-do. Basically these posts are to show you that you don't really have to buy anything new to totally re-do your bedroom! I used everything I already had and only bought a few things.

I like the look of piles of pillows on the bed so, of course, I already had 6, not including the 4 that we sleep on.

Instead of buying new pillows I bought some fabric and made pillow covers for the ones I had.

Here's the bed with 4 of the pillows on it because I had moved two of them to the hope chest to cover the upholstery that was already on it but had gotten stained from years of little feet jumping on it to get to the bed.

Here's a really bad shot of the whole shebang with the last two pillows on the hope chest waaaaaaay down at the bottom of the picture...
^^^ see? you can barely see em. i don't know what i was
                                                                        doing with this picture.

Anywhateverthehell.

Here are the pillows now after I recovered them. Or actually just made some pillow covers and popped em in em.

You can see that I also recovered the headboard. It went from green to gray. It's not hard to recover a big object like this...it's basically like wrapping a present.

Lay the material flat on the floor and plop your large headboard (or whatever you're recovering) down on it. Then pull the material around the sides and use your staple gun to secure it tightly.

Then if you have buttons on your project, like I did, you reupholster those. And those things are a pain in the ass, let me tell you! This is the only part of the entire bedroom process that pissed me off beyond belief! *#&^@*$&#^#@!!!

Now take a deep breath and move on to a different project before you set something on fire.

A new top for the hope chest!

My materials were a large piece of cardboard to make it sturdy on the bottom. Fabric and polyfil for stuffing pillows.

I spread the polyfil out on the cardboard and took my fabric and wrapped it like a present! I used fabric glue because I'm pretty sure I'm going to be taking it apart and putting a piece of foam in there, but for now, this is what the finished product looks like.

Now, for the bedding, because I was being very frugal, I went to my go-to store for frugal. WalMart. Love it or hate it, I don't care, it's got inexpensive and, if you're paying attention to what you want, pretty nice things in the bedding department.  When you're being frugal, you can't always be so choosy as to completely discount the thought of one store over another. I shopped around and WalMart happened to have what I wanted for the price I was willing to pay.

Here's the bedding I went with:

That wraps up this episode of "How to redo your bedroom on the cheap." Ha! These last 3 posts have been my bigger projects...I did a thousand small projects to add personal touches and to re-do pieces that I already had to change the entire look of the room. I even did a really cool piece that I got from Pinterest that I'll show you on our next episode.

Is it just me or does talking like you're on TV seem really fun? Just me? Whatever.

I like the colors you chose for the pillows :)

It really all did come together so nicely. And hey- Walmart definitely has some good things. I saw a bed set at three different stores- exact same one- and one at Walmart was way cheaper.

That is looking great. I'd do stuff like that but the crafting gene seems to have skipped me. I think we may attempt a recover of our dining chairs, but I have to find a fabric I like.

I love it. I wish I had a headboard to recover. I may just have to make one now. My room needs a serious makeover.

We have a couple of shows here in Aus that have DIY (do it yourself) segments, and they have shown how to recover headboards and make all sorts of things with egg cartons for the kids and making old beauty cases into side tables. All sorts of stuff.

Looks beautiful! I love the tufted headboard. Are you so glad to have it all finished? Last time I bought new bedding, it changed the feel of my entire bedroom---made it a sanctuary and I kept saying over and over again, "why did I wait so long to do this?" Enjoy your new space.

The chest is gorgeous! As is the bedding (which is coincidentally pretty similar to ours, so I'm a little biased).

Love it. You whoop my butt in crafting. Of course, so do crows and beavers, so that's not saying much...

How would you like to write a guest post for Urban Earthworm? Say, something like what small step your family takes to live more sustainably (perhaps your skill for repurposing)?
