I told y'all Friday about the bear hunt.
I actually wasn't sure if I'd make it and not just because I'm fat. I don't have a great gait. I don't have perfect balance. Or any.
Anyway, the hike was definitely worse than I thought it would be: narrow path, slippery leaves, large rocks hiding under the leaves, tree roots, etc.
There were a couple mud puddles. And by mud puddles I mean 30 foot stretches of swamp with ankle deep standing water.
You had to step over a small stream. And by stepping over a small stream I mean precariously balancing on about 6 not big enough or flat enough rocks and doing the high wire dance across about 4 feet of calf deep water.
There was a bridge over the next stream we had to cross. And by bridge I mean about 6 rickety logs that worked like see-saws when you stepped on one end.
There were a couple of pretty steep inclines. The second one was the one to get up into the "cave" part where the actual petroglyphs were.
Not gonna lie, we were up there for almost 2 hours and the entire time I worried about how I was going to get back down that hill.
We learned a lot of different things...and really cool things too!
But.
What sucked the worst was that by the time the "outdoor learning" was over, we only had 25 minutes to get back to the smelly school bus.
It took us 90 minutes to get out there. And less than a third of the time to get back. Holy fat girl running, Batman.
I can only imagine that if hell is a place where you go and do your least favorite thing forever? That's what my hell would look like.
part of the trail
this forest was messy
i can't tell you what the petroglyphs mean. you have to pay the price. hike. that. trail.

Yea!! Glad you survived! Did you see any vampires while hiking in the woods? :)
Good girl!!!!! Was that a vampirish panda bear?
I'd be scared too. or scarred.. whichever.
Down is always worse than up. I my opinion, anyway. Glad you survived. Field trips are so much fun, aren't they?
This is pretty cool! I'm with you on everything you said. I pretty much hate the great outdoors. Haha! I had no idea you could find this kind of stuff up in the mountains. My husband hiked to a crashed b-17 in the Olympics last summer. Cool stuff, but man, it's work.
Is it terribly horrible of me to have gotten the giggles at imagining you running down that hill? I like hikes, but they DO scare me. Not knowing if something will hold up or slip off or something. YOU DID IT!! YAY!!
Glad you survived being around that panda! lol
So glad you made it out alive :)
You crazy mountain people!
Sounds like loads of fun.
LOL!! Im glad you made it out alive. And thank you for not editing the panda hat! :D
It totally looked like the Forks forest! That could have kept my overactive imagination occupied for hours. I bet your son liked having you with him.
See...in that first picture. I see beautiful ferns and you see mud.
Glad you survived!
Good for you!!! And you made me laugh out loud about getting back to the smelly school bus ;)
Cool petroglyphs.
yay you survived way to go girl
Sounds like you already HAD a great day! Wishing you many, many more!
Some things are just not worth it. But I'm glad you survived!
