There are certain things about Facebook that I love. Staying in touch with friends and family from around the world. Okay, probably more like just across the country. I'm not real worldly.
There are times that the the things I hate about Facebook outnumber the things I like.
Facebook Etiquette Faux Pas:
The Random Snark:
People who never comment or interact with you actually come and comment on your status update with the most sarcastic snippet ever. Seriously. If you never talk to me? Keep your sarcasm to yourself. If it's a constant banter thing? Yes. By all means. Let's banter. If not? Go away.
The Passive Aggressive Wuss:
People who don't have the guts to state their opinion. You might have a status update, or perhaps a friend of yours has one that you comment on. Someone comes behind you and disagrees with you. Then you see that their comment was liked. Who liked that comment? Oh. One of my friends. They like that I've been put in my place by random observer. Of course they don't have the guts to come out and say it themselves...so they passive aggressively "like" everyone on the thread that is trying to "school" me.
The Political Pawns:
People who never do any research but spew their thoughts, uninformed, all over your feed.
The Look At Me! People:
People who only update when they need to explain how rough their life is right now. They then get kudos and likes and hearts and prayers from everyone.
The Drive By Poster:
People who post some totally evocative status update that begs questions but never comes back to give the rest of the story.
The Stalkers:
People who will see that you commented on something and then go look at whatever it was. I feel like this is pretty nosy, but it's there to see (Facebook really needs to quit sharing all of that kind of stuff.) so they give it a looky loo. Then they have the gall to bitch at you for it. Um. Did it have anything to do with you? No? Then shut the heck up.
The Golden Rule Violators:
Do unto those as you would have them do unto you. If you don't want people being jerks to you then don't be jerks to them. Think of it like this: If you wouldn't say it in real life, don't say it online. And if you would say it in real life then be prepared for the consequences. As in: a couple weeks ago someone said something to me on Facebook that had they said it to me in real life there's a very real possibility that I would have hit them. I probably would have slapped them across the face so hard that their teeth would still be rattling.
The Unfrienders:
That sort of speaks for itself. The only reason it bugs me is that sometimes I think, "You know, I think I should probably unfriend them...I don't really know them that well..." So I go to do it and guess what. They're gone! They already unfriended me! The nerve!!!
The One Worders:
Again, no explanation really necessary. Things like, Frustrated. Happy. No! Shoot. Excited. I have one word for them. Lame.
The Novel Writers:
The people whose status updates are so long that you have to take a pee break before you get to the end of them.
So...I'm guilty of some of these. I know I am...probably The Golden Rule Violator...because the level of anonymity that comes with social media leads you to say things you'd never say in real life. Although I try not to ever do that.
I've been known to be a Novel Writer. I've done the Political thing...try to keep those to a minimum because they're so irritating! I've probably also done a Look At Me!
Are you guilty of any of these things? Do you have one you would add?

I spent hours last night on FB trying to figure out how to configure privacy settings and block games, etc because there are a few guys I knew from elementary school and they only ever send me game requests and it drives me bonkers.
There IS a way to stop people from "going to look at what it is" but its a long tedious progress. Ive seen this on many people's statuses and ignored it for so long, but I finally took a look and actually read how to do it and tried it with a few people. Basically, my sister doesn't want her pictures or anything to go out there, everywhere so she needed me to change her privacy thingamagiggy so that HER feeds will only show up on MINE, and nobody else could carry it over. FB has gotten plenty complicated.
Thats another FB annoyance. Complex-aggedon.
ALL OF THESE. OMG so annoying. My husband was the culprit of what I like to refer to as "Vaguebooking" the other day and just posted "Hmmm" as a status update. It annoyed me to no end.
I also have someone who is a Random Snarker on my list. I honestly keep forgetting I'm even friends with her and then I'll post something and boom there she is with some sort of obnoxious comment. I should delete her.
I always find it a little creepy when a random person from high school likes one of my friends photos that I've commented on. The whole follow over from the mini sidebar facebook is strange and creepy.
Ive been pretty much hating Facebook lately. There are a few people I really want to unfriend, but I know once I do that, they will be at my house causing the drama to my face instead of the private messages. Getting really tired of the drama.
Ugh. Don't get me started on FB. I'd like to add the "bragger" to the list, though. You know the one that posts pictures of every gift their husband brings them and leaves the most annoying updates about how happy they are and how good their life is. If you feel the need to make sure the whole world knows how happy you are, I'm pretty certain you're not really all that happy at all.
I don't care for the whiners. The people who seem to want to make Facebook their drama outlet.
The Look At Me! folks truly get on my nerves. Whining now and again is fine, but if every status update is negative, I just unfriend them. I don't need other people's constant negativity in my life.
Of course, I'm a chronic novel writer (yes, irritating), and I've twice done a huge unfriend batch. I don't like having to spend 30 minutes trying to find the status update of people I regularly interact with and care about, so occasionally I'll go through and unfriend (or hide) the folks that I casually know or went to school with (but they never ever post anything on my FB). Lurkers beware! ;)
Oh my gosh I totally agree with all of these. I really hate the whinny boo hooo poor is me types to get attention. And the one that never ever ever comments unless I post something that she has checked on snopes and then she comes on the disagree with me...that happened the other day and I de-friended her. Yup I did. Me bad
LOL! I am sure I'm guilty of most all of these! I don't post too often these days, but something that annoys me are the random questions. I have friends who post random questions to stir conversation..ok, that's good, once a day..but when you get half a dozen questions in an afternoon..it gets old. I don't care what your favorite make out song of the 90's was, or if you prefer nuts on your ice cream. One interesting tid bit a day please!
I'm a liker, I like peoples posts & sometimes the comments that people leave. Yup, I read through the comments... I'm nosey like that.
I'm probably guilty of all of them once in a while... facebook is dumb, seriously if you take it too seriously then you are dumb too. Don't you think? People crack me up with the crap they post. LOL
There's also the hypocrites. Those who accuse you of doing the exact same thing THEY'RE doing.
Had that recently, it's a long story but if you're interested - http://www.jewelsdiva.com.au/2013/02/this-week-i-got-called-bigot-for-daring.html
Oh I have a love/hate relationship with FB too...and those darn one-worders...lame ;)
Happy Valentine's Day, friend.
xo
Haha it is so funny that everyone has the same type of people on their Facebook. The funny thing is the people are completely different yet strangely the same. Like 85% of the people on my Facebook (ashamedly) are pretty white trash rednecks. haha. Yet they always think they know everything political. Our they have to brag about the amazing meal they cooked (all with food bought from food stamps I'm sure).
YES. Whyyyyy do I still have a facebook account?! Ugh.
My brother in law is stalking my facebook page. He hasn't comment in years and all of a sudden...every day. And it's always sarcastic.
I think I'm FB perfect!
Hey and since when are you obsessed with the amish?
I agree with everything you said. Especially the ones looking for pity or posting stupid stuff that makes no sense. I rarely post, but when I do it's to inform friends/family of things going on or to share photos with those I rarely see. As for the political rants and football mess....Grrrr!
I've wanted to delete my FB account so many times, for all the people you mentioned and more. But it's a great place to share photos and stay in touch, and unfortunately so many of my friends only communicate through Facebook. Bleck.
I wish people like my MIL who don't really know how to use fb would just delete their accounts. She drives me crazy with her posts, and worse yet when she comments on mine!
Ditto! I hate the spammers too!
LOL!!! My bil is the random snark. I know he can be mean sometimes, but some people think it's funny... MAN!!!
And a niece once put one of those "My life sucks" kind of posts up, so I messaged her privately to find out what happened and if there was anything I could do. She wrote back and said that it's just drama and unfriended me.
My dil does that kind of post ALL the time. She doesn't know how to be happy...
I think you nailed the list!
I have at least one of each of these on my list. What I hate the most is the vague updater who is seeking attention.
"OH MY GOD, WORST DAY EVER!"
"Oh, I'm sorry. What happened?"
SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes.. Im the passive aggressive wuss. Sometimes.
I totally agree with you!! I wrote a post like this about a year ago and I think I had the same annoyances! I hate the vague updates like "Excited!" and then nothing, even when people ask. I can't stand braggers either. If you have to tell us multiple times a day how awesome you are, chances are, you aren't at all. But the worst are the novel updates when it's mundane things like "The kids are up and dressed, we have to make it to the post office and then I'm dropping them off at a birthday party. Finally I'll get some me time! I'm meeting a friend for lunch. After I pick up the kids we'll stop by the dry cleaners then go home and have pot roast that's been in the crock pot all day. Yummy. I have laundry and dishes to do after dinner and when the kids are in bed it's time to settle in with my husband and watch the Dog the Bounty Hunter marathon." Don't tell me about your to-do list!!! Haha. Now I'm all fired up! Sometimes I really hate facebook.
I hate the ones that spout their political views!!! During the election I thought I might have to defriend my husband's grandmother. it was out of control!
Bahahahahaha Mimi, you got me rolling on the floor laughing with this one. Bull's eye on all 490!! Hope you don't mind, I'm sharing this one on my FB. Toooo funnnyy. Especially the Novel Writers and the unfrienders! Can't stop laughing.
I don't think I have ever seen a one worded. But yes the drive by ones drive me crazy! And if I don't like something-unless it is something truly offensive I just ignore it rather than take the time to tell that person why they were wrong, etc. They aren't suddenly going to change their mind because I pointed out they were wrong.
I am probably pissing a lost of people off with Facebook...I just put my blog on it but don't really "get" all the other stuff I am supposed to be doing...I do not even know if I have friends!
I hate FB 98% of the time. There are wonderful things about it, but mostly it makes me hate people I wouldn't ordinarily hate.
I am sure I have broken some of those rules. I try not to be too annoying though. I do try to keep my political views to a very minimum, and not rant too much on anyone thing. I never snark and for that I am proud.
There is so much that annoys me about facebook.
I cannot look at my stepsister's updates b/c she does things like "Hey @nameoffriend, I know you are having a rough week, so I'm coming over with dinner for you and the family!"
Nice, right? Except that she does it like that so that all of her friends and the friends of the person she is tagging can see it. So they all comment and tell her what a wonderful person she is. When really, she could have texted it. She does it with every good deed she does. I think things like that should be done quietly and not for the applause. But then it makes me pissy and makes me want to post something good I've done so I can be like see, I'm a nice person, too- I just don't need to tell the world about it.
Um... end rant.
I am a complete Facebook addict, and I hate a lot about it. Mostly, I hate the fact that it has become so intertwined into culture that even if I weren't an addict, I'd feel totally out of touch if I quit it.
Please, please call me out (preferably privately) if I ever do any of these things. I tend to pop onto Facebook in waves, and I always wonder if it annoys people.
All of these! Yes! The worst are the constant complainers. Gah! I mostly hate FB. Except when funny friends post stuff on my timeline. ;)
sheesh 32 comments...you are supah popular!!
lots of snark has come my way recently, so i just click unfriend. it is soooo liberating!!
